Introduce Yourself

Hello NOVL world! I’m Natali, the Marketing Assistant at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. I work with our trade titles on things you’d typically associate with marketing (think advertisements, promo items, sales materials, etc.), but I also help out a lot with writing content for NOVL and organizing giveaways!

Favorite Book of All Time

Like everyone here, I’ve had so many important books come at different points in my life, but the one that’s stuck with me the most is A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It’s equal parts harrowing and hopeful, and witty… this book made me feel everything from bitter to sweet and all the emotions in between! From the gut-wrenching plot, to the honest, raw characters and the gorgeously designed illustrations, A Monster Calls was a book that showed me all the amazing things that children’s literature could do, and it ignited a passion for a genre I’m excited to work with.

Favorite LBYR Book

I keep bouncing back and forth between The Name of This Book is a Secret and The Mysterious Benedict Society, but right now I think it’s The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart! I read this book when it first came out with my best friends from Girl Scouts, and almost 10 years later we still sometimes talk about it. It’s such a magical non-magic story, it’s so quirky and charming, and Carson Ellis has become one of my favorite illustrators over the years. All around, this book holds a very special place in my heart <3.

Book You’ve Been Meaning to Read for a While

All You Can Ever Know by Nicole Chung

A Signed Book on Your Shelf

I was so lucky to get my copy of Looking for Alaska signed when I saw John Green on the Paper Towns movie tour in our home state of Indiana! Indiana has a growing literary scene, and it was so cool having one of my favorite authors right in my backyard when I was falling in love with YA. Teenage Natali will never get over that day…

Favorite Book Cover

There are too many! What I love about great book covers is how they can instantly immerse you into a feeling, a scene, the atmosphere of the story. The original covers of Sarah Dessen’s books and Stephanie Perkin’s Anna and the French Kiss make me feel warm and giggly inside; Meagan Spooner and Amie Kaufman’s These Broken Stars makes me feel powerful, beautiful, and otherworldly; Molly Prentiss’ Tuesday Nights in 1980 is vibrant and fun, and makes me want to stay up all night exploring New York!

A Literary Obsession

I’m a sucker for a good team heist story! I’m obsessed with stuff like Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows, Rick Riordan’s The Mark of Athena, even Trenton Lee Stewart’s The Mysterious Benedict Society and Gordon Korman’s Swindle. Groups of cool teens breaking in and fighting together really gets me fired up and ready to kick butt for some reason!
