Andie

Introduce Yourself

Hi, lovely people! My name is Andie, and I’m a Marketing Assistant here at LBYR. I get to help a wide variety of LBYR books (picture, middle grade, YA, and more) find happy homes with readers like you! When I’m not furiously consuming the newest release or working on bookish projects for my job, you can find me on a road trip, tending to my houseplants, playing spooky board games, eating Pad Thai, or messing around with special effects makeup. Fake blood, anyone? I also have a burning passion for candles—pun very much intended.

Favorite Book of All Time

Ah, the cruelest of questions. Even though I’m not sure I have a favorite book of all time anymore, my go-to answer is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It taught me that books, words, and little girls have the power to change the world. Between you and me, I haven’t reread it in quite a few years because the emotional havoc it wreaks on my soul is quite intense. I mean, did you read that final line?!

Favorite LBYR Book

Probably the Strange the Dreamer duology by Laini Taylor. A duology counts as one, don’t question it. These books are whimsical, dark, full of heart, and mysterious—all at the same time somehow. Laini Taylor is the queen of world-building. Where you end up is miles from where you begin, and I love every bit of the journey.

Unexpected Book That YOu Love

I have a very soft spot in my heart for Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. There is high court drama; there is a journey fraught with symbolism; and there is a final confrontation open to many, many interpretations. Plus, most medieval literature is basically fantastical fanfiction.

Book You’ve Been Meaning to read for a while

I think The Count of Monte Cristo wins the award for longest-standing book on my TBR. Dad, if you’re reading this, I promise to get to it someday…

A signed book on your shelf

Markus Zusak drew me a picture of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in my copy of The Book Thief. It is a prized possession.  I also have beloved signed copies of Muse of Nightmares and, in the interest of mentioning a non-repeat, Midnight Sun.

Non-Book Bookish Item

Mugs!!! I may or may not have a mug problem. I’ve got mugs featuring favorite book quotes and cover art, indie bookstore logos, banned book titles, and more. I’m always on the lookout, and I definitely (don’t) have the kitchen storage space for all of them.

A Literary Obsession

I am trash for anything in the realm of magical realism. It might be because I’ve secretly always hoped to find a doorway to a semi-magical universe next door on my daily commute. If you also wish you could add a dusting of magic to your everyday life, you should check out The Starless Sea and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan, and Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.

Book(s) that you think everyone should read

Whatever you want, and no one should shame you. All genres welcome here. But also, maybe Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. And Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds.

Most worn-out (but well-loved) book

My copy of Eldest by Christopher Paolini is coming apart at the seams. I toted that thing around all through middle school. I really should replace it, but we had so many good times together.

Favorite book cover

Probably the Six of Crows duology covers. I love an illustrated cover with a complementary series design. The UK special editions are stunning as well. Give me all the shiny books.
