Hello! I’m Sydney, and I’m a Publicity Manager at LBYR. I work on everything from board books to YA. I love a picture book (well, really any book) that will move me to tears, graphic novels, and a good scary story!
Favorite Book of All Time
Anything from Vashti Harrison, Tillie Walden, or Junji Ito is almost always an instant all-time favorite.
Unexpected Book That YOu Love
Not a particular book, but Memoirs in generally surprised me over the past year! I’ve really fallen in love with this genre. Some notable favorites are Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, How we Fight for our Lives by Saaed Jones, and In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado.
A signed book on your shelf
My signed copies of Dear Martin by Nic Stone and Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak are so meaningful to me. They’re from my very early days in publishing and both authors were an immense part of my early career and always so encouraging and kind. I’m very grateful for their warmth and to have had the opportunity to work with two legends.
Book(s) that you think everyone should read
The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen. It is a masterpiece. The storytelling, the text, even the backmatter detailing Trung’s research process and inspiration—it is masterful from top to bottom. Do yourself a favor and read it (and prep the tissues!).
Most worn-out (but well-loved) book
My copies of R.L Stine’s Goosebumps series and Fear Street series.
Favorite book cover
Mary H.K. Choi’s jacket covers are insanely beautiful. Somewhere Between Bitter and Sweet by Laekan Zea Kemp is so striking and includes my favorite colors. Wilder Girls (duh!). And a picture book favorite is Faith Ringgold’s Tar Beach.
